Danny's Thoughts 09/17/19
Well we are through the 2ndQuarter of 2019, and though it finished strong, it was not as prosperous as the 1stQuarter. U.S. PLY’s 1stQuarter was the best quarter we’ve had in many years, and we greatly appreciate the business from all our loyal customers. Thank you!
In my last “Danny’s Thoughts,”I discussed Hurricane Michael, and now we are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian which devastated the Bahamas. Hurricane destruction hits very close to home with me as I personally lived through Hurricane Rita in 2005 and lost almost everything. My wife and I (along with our U.S. PLY Team) have been praying for all those affected by the storm. I have personally visited several locations where storms have hit, but I have never seen the destruction of the Bahamas as depicted in the media. At U.S. PLY we strive to make the best roofing systems possible to withstand high winds, but if the building is destroyed it does not matter how good the roof is . If the building withstands the storm, however, it sure is better to have it dry. This is what I found with my home after Rita.
For your information, 1/5 of the world’s oil production (which comes from Saudi Arabia) has been stopped due to a drone attack. I anticipate that both gas and asphalt will probably be going up in the near future. When you’re bidding out your 4thQuarter projects, please keep in mind that there may be some price increases due to this attack. Good news for our DuraFlex SBS G4 customers, as fiberglass scrim pricing has softened this year and has become more available. We foresee no trouble in being able to keep up our level of service for all the Texas school work that uses our fiberglass mod bit cap sheets and base sheets.
On a brighter and lighter note, I am looking forward to seeing all our customers and friends at the RCAT on Thursday, September 19. We will be located in RCAT Booth 128 from 1-6 PM. Please come by and see us and meet our new employee, Jeff Cole. Jeff has been part of the roofing industry for years and is now U.S. PLY’s Head of Logistics. Although Jeff is not in sales, I asked him to join Scott, Jon and me in the booth at the RCAT Show so he could meet our loyal Texas contractors.
As always, thank you for your business.

MRCA Testing US Ply Material Comes Out On Top!
Last fall, the MRCA gave a presentation on their field study of in-service reflectivity of polymer modified bitumen membranes. In the May 2013 issue of Professional Roofing, that study is the featured article and the cover story of the publication. U.S. Ply’s DuraStar G4 TGW SBS is listed by name with 4 of the 28 roofs evaluated in the study. Each roof was measured with 30 random readings to score a low and high average. Our roof membrane scored extremely high in this evaluation conducted by Matthew Dupuis, P.E. (son of Rene Dupuis). While the article provides its own generic conclusions – I wanted to give you some texture to the values provided in this study.
In terms of range of reflective average, U.S. Ply’s DuraStar G4 TGW SBS had 3 of the best overall performance and 4 of the top 6! When all roofs are averaged U.S. Ply had the best “power ranking” in terms of reflective performance average for all roofs combined. While the study doesn’t make these bold conclusions, the averages are there in the table of the article. To help you see where we placed, I have provided the rankings below:
2013 Color Me Rad 5K
U.S. PLY and friends participated in the 2013 Color Me Rad 5K in Fort Worth on May 18th to benefit various charities. We want to thank everyone who participated in the walk and for donating to this great cause. Our staff had a great time and had a very color experience with everyone.
2013 IRE Trade Show
U.S. PLY would like to thank everyone personally for coming out to the 2013 IRE. The 2013 IRE trade show in San Antonio, Texas was a success. We met many of our clients and held a Grand Loyal Customer Appreciation Party at Luciano’s Italian Restaurant on the River Walk for our top customers. We ate and drank all through the night and was able to meet with our customers and gain a personal relationship with them as well as talk business. Everyone's booths were amazing at the show. The U. S. PLY staff had an amazing time. Thanks to everyone and our staff for making this show a success.
